Mistreatment of women

Hi guys and welcome to my blog, I’m going to be touching on the topic of women abuse.

On the weekend I watched a play called ‘No Sugar’, some scenes shown in the play reminded me of when I used to get abused by my husband, the brutal punches to my face that left me bleeding, the kick to my stomach that left me gasping for breath and to almost recognise this in the play broke my heart. The theme of mistreatment of women is shown in several time throughout ‘No Sugar’. I myself was a victim of domestic violence. For years I was getting abused by my husband and I was doing nothing to stop it until one night it went too far and I was almost beaten to death. For years I blamed myself but now I realise that the world around me was doing nothing, I am writing to create change and let the government know that women abuse needs to stop and they need to start doing something to help.

Women are dying

Violence against women need to stop because for instance more women are dying to this cause. What if this were to be your mum, sister, daughter or wife? How would you feel if you were to hear that one of them were raped and murdered? Throughout ‘No Sugar’ there were several examples that showed that abuse against women was tolerated such as when Mr Neal states that  “The Moore River Native settlement went into domestic services for one year, 30 girls returned pregnant” this line in the play disgusted me in the fact that they used rape to inflict discrimination on women. At least 3 women die every week and the problem is the government aren’t doing much, when they could. The government has enough publicity to advertise for change but still it is often a topic to be ignored.

Blaming women? Pathetic

The government also needs to stop those who decide that it is okay to blame women for their own rape or abused. Too many times have women been raped or abused and then got victim blamed for something that was not there fault in the first place. Men are entitled to their own actions, so for a man to rape a women and for people to blame the women makes no sense to me. In ‘No Sugar’ the same action were caused when Mary refused to work at the hospital “I don’t care. You can belt me if you like, I’m not working in the hospital”. This is usually the main reason as to why women get abused due to not doing what the partner tells them, Intimate partner violence is a leading contributor to illness, disability and premature death for women aged 18-44. And still after all these deaths and victim blaming the government chooses to allow it.

Harsher punishment

And for those who re-offend the punishment should be harsher. The fact that people would still re-offend just makes me sick to my stomach. Obviously those who re-offend are getting sentenced but are they really getting what they deserve.
