Racism Against Muslims

I’ve been in Australia for almost 9 years, and I think there are still some people who think discriminating against muslim religion or even themselves and and people like sudanese is not a big issue but a normal thing for them. Not much people discuss about this issue in our society and i think we should do something to make changes in our society so everybody can be equal and feel equal. Recently I’ve read this book “No Sugar” which is exploring the mistreatement of the aboriginal people in the time of “great depression”.The author Jack Davis criticise the white people, who believe aborigines are ‘Savages’.The aborigines suffer from institutionalised racism. The image shows on top, that muslims were surveyed and it was found that they experienced racism on public transport or and on street. 

Better Education

This kind of behaviour still exists in our society today, how white people discriminate muslims and other groups with other religions. Whether it’s by their race, colour or traditions. Those poeple out there don’t seem to understand that everyone is equal and everyone has a right to do whatever they want, nobody can say anything to them nor can they be racists to them. Not only us but also government has to do something, about this. They have to make some changes in education so everybody can understand each other. That way no one is going to fight each other or discriminate against each other. Australia is one of the most multicultural countries in the world and it is central to our national identity. so, I think people have to also act like that and understand the fact the we all are one and humans and we all have to treat each other equally with respect.

Whereas In “No Sugar” the book I was talking about before, aborginal people didn’t use to get treated like humans but animals, they had to listen to white people and had to do what they say, white people didn’t treat them with respect and didn’t give them equal rights as everyone else.The Sergeant says ‘you have three healthy men bludging off you, too lazy to work’. This is in fact not true because the aborigines are exploited and not paid decently for their work. The racists attitude and mentality is shows towards the aboriginals.

Today in our society this kind of behaviour has been shown through different groups such as sudanese people and also muslim people. With more than 35,000 refugees from Sudan having settled in various local communities over the past decade, it would be reasonable for the average Australian to be nonplussed as to whether they present a real crime and justice problem in Australia.There were reports of sharply increased incidence of racism, abuse or violence against Arab and Muslim Australians since September 11th, 2001. I think the government should do something so everybody can understand each other, so that this won’t affect our future generation.

Penalties

I have seen and heard from many people that discriminating against different groups in our society has been going on for a long time but nobody can be bothered talking about that and also they are not making any changes or putting effort in making people understand that this is not right, or they are not getting anything by discriminating different people and making them feel left out. Next time government should give peanlty to people who are being racists to muslims or any other group of people because i think that way people might understand that this is not right thing to do. How would you feel if you were getting discriminated by non-muslim? how would you feel if people would laugh at you just because you are aboriginal or muslim? I know how would you feel that’s why other people also have to understand that no matter who ever it is you are being mean with them and they would feel bad.

This has also been shown in “No Sugar” when Davis uncovers racism in Australia, by showing that the aborigines have been abused and systematically murdered by the white people.The character in the book Billy, relates the 1926 massacre that killed many in his tribe, purely because one white man was killed. In Western Australia, in 72 years, the population of 13,000 aborigines was reduced to 1419 many of whom are half castes. This shows that the numbers of aborigines have declined sharply possibly due to white intervention.

And if we look, today in our society that all is still the same. Nobody has changed and didn’t even decide to make changes in our society. why don’t people understand that if we don’t change ourselves now then there is no time after and also it will affect their coming generation, they would also be like that and in that time nobody will be there for them, to tell them what’s right and wrong. So I think people should give it a thought once again and do something about this because it will be helpful for those people out there who get discriminated by non-muslims and also it will be a good opportunity for them to understand each other. We all are equal and everyone has the right to live happily and peacefully.

Immigration Issues

According to the ‘Universal Declaration Of Human Rights’ in article 14 it has been said that “Everyone has the right to seek and to enjoy in other countries asylum from persecution”If you are forced to flee your home because of human rights abuses, you have the right to seek safety in another country. This means that border police or other authorities may not refuse you entry, or return you to your own country, without proper consideration being given to your request for asylum. Government should stop forbidding muslim immigration into Australia and also other people who come to australia as an immigrant. Those people can’t enter this country just because of government restrictions. In my opinion i think government should stop doing this and let people come here if they want to.

Just imagine for a second if you were muslim or aboriginal what would you do if government would stop you from coming to this country? Everyone would feel the same way they would feel that they are not equal as everyone just because they are muslim or some other person from different background. In the Universal Declaration Of Human Rights it has also been said that “Everyone has the right to a nationality” You have the right to be treated as a citizen of the country you come from. No one can take away your citizenship, or prevent you from changing your nationality, without good reason. In “No Sugar” the government treats the aborigines as second-class citizens. It is clear that they regard the First Australians as part of the natural landscape. They belong to the ‘Fisheries, Forestry, and Wildlife’ department. This shows that the white people believe that the aborigines are ‘savages’.

In today’s world it has been shown that Law said the majority of non-anglo Australians had experienced racism in their lifetimes, something the rest of the population might not appreciate. Muslim Australians are highly likely to experience discrimination along the following three main reasons, people think they are potential terrorists. There is no place in Australia for muslims and also Muslims should abandon their cultural practices. Why do people think like this? How would you feel if someone would question you like this? In fact in this today’s world those people should be ashamed! and instead of questioning muslims in this way they should treat them equally and not discriminate them.

Changes To Make

Overall australian society should continue to embrace multiculturalism. Julie Bishop, announced that the University of Melbourne, Griffith University and the University of Western Sydney will host a National Centre of Excellence for Islamic Studies to advance knowledge and understanding of Islam. This knowledge should be for everybody, from this non-muslims who discriminate muslims which get knoewledge about Islam and then from onwards nobody would be racists to people. In “No Sugar” how aborginals were getting treated unfairly, I would never want anybody to be treated in this manner in today’s society.

In our society, some people still think that discriminating muslims or their religion it is okay to do that, but this argument is flawed because all people are equal and they have no right to discriminate anyone, even their religon it’s not in ‘Universal Declaration Of Human Rights’. The vast majority of Australians 84% believe that multiculturalism has been good for Australia. most Australian 86% support action to tackle racism in Australia, it doesn’t matter if its muslims. It’s so many people in our today’s society who get discriminated from different people and can’t do anything about it, so I think it’s time we should do something for them and help them, so they don’t get discriminated.

All those people out there should be ashamed! it’s not good
